Where to start.... After Mike Kimbrough texting me Saturday morning there would be an early 2:30 warmer, I had an hour to leave. I arrived at Backporch Drafthouse only few minutes past. It was already bubbling...
I saw faces I could recognize, mostly. Tammie Rogers, Kim Hupp, Renee Boles, Suzanne Dunn, Dana Hurley, Mike Kimbrough, Kevin Ingram, James Troutman, Lance Perritt and Kyle Karns. I correctly guessed on David Smith :)
Of course, the time blew by, it's impossible to compress 23 years into one day. I must say, every one looked fantastic!.
After a quick call to the hotel and Aqua Velva, I was off again. This time I drove north, past the point where I had gone on my first date at the Drive In, I still remember, it was the The Shining. Pretty scary for a 16 year old with his new hopefully girlfriend.
Anyway, I had my GPS locked on the Kochendorfer brewery. I arrived. I snuck in the back way, no security, thank goodness. This was gonna be a Breeze. (No pun intended).
I walked inside, and I see that old fox ... Ken Goodrich, my college roommate at oSu. We share a strong handshake, male hug and a big smile. We spent a lot of time at Joe's and both did fantastic scholastically as well. I remember we took College Algebra in same class, I did so well on the tests, I was almost first one finished. I think Ken was a little jealous about that.
Anyway, I lost my place... Oh back to the long overdue reunion. My ole mates were all pouring in now. 😱 Is that Hogan!? I had not seen my old best friend since our last reunion in 2002. There he was in the flesh again right in front of me. That same warm smile, that same kind vibe. It was so wonderful to see this special man who I shared so many memories with in our 9-12 grade years. We talked and shared how are lives have gone. I really, really was so happy to see him. Thanks for coming dude! Let me think... Bobby the coach and still a stud in his old ways, more good memories from athletic days and football foul ups for the master scrub myself. The stoic and heart of gold Mike Kimbrough! Jimmy Sanders, a another lanky gem of a gentleman, and here comes that other half of the dog sled pullers. Ken's comedic partner and sidekick the indomitable Larry Johnson. I talked to as many people as I could button hole for the short time we had and I enjoyed every second we were together. Thank you to all who made it. I hope we can have more at our next one. Til then I wish all my mates the very best things money can't buy. Love all of you!
